X-Files of the BSA

The Boy Scouts of America is by far one of the best youth organizations in the world. Since scouting was founded in 1907-08 by Baden Powell, the number of member’s world wide has grown to well over 28 million in 216 countries and territories; and it continues to grow every year. On February 8th 1910, the National Council of the Boys Scouts of America was incorporated; it was then registered by congress in 1916. According to the B.S.A., in 2005, the number of scouts and adult volunteers in America totaled 6,184,828.

Scouting has a rich and wonderful history to it, but like most histories, the unusual and unexplained history is swept under the carpet. In fact, from their wartime activities to the ghosts of Camp Philmont in New Mexico—scouting has a very active and vibrant paranormal history.

The BSA was a huge part of my childhood; I earned the rank of Eagle Scout at the age of seventeen after eleven years of campouts and merit badges. While I was in the boy scouts, I often heard the ghost stories at summer camp and of the scout troops who supposedly witnessed something strange in the woods; but it wasn’t until later in life that I decided to write a book on the subject. When I was younger; I became fascinated with the paranormal and unusual history. In fact, a little known personal secret is that I’ve checked out every paranormal book in each middle and high school I’ve attended.

I am currently researching for this book and would love to hear your stories and experiences with anything unusual in scouting. By aiding me in my research, we can bring to light the unusual and sometimes paranormal history of the BSA in a one of a kind history book:
